Ring In the Holidays Near Portsmouth at the 30th Annual Grand Illumination Parade
November 18, 2014
2014 marks the 30th year since Norfolk first invited Santa to stroll through its downtown at the end of November. The 30th Annual Grand Illumination Parade kicks off at 7 p.m. on November 22—rain or shine. It's free to the public, so round up your family and neighbors at Portsmouth and head downtown early to get a good spot.
The event begins with Norfolk's ever-present skyline getting a holiday makeover. After the illumination of the skyline, the parade starts. Massive, stunning floats herald the holidays. They're interspersed with dance troops, giant holiday balloons, and eventually even Santa himself. The parade serves as a prelude to six weeks' worth of Christmas and holiday events throughout Norfolk. Check out the Holidays in the City website for more information about the parade and other upcoming events.
