Check Out Local Art and More at Maker Fest Portsmouth

On Saturday, August 19, head over to the Children's Museum of Virginia for the Maker Fest Portsmouth. This all-ages event features interactive demonstrations from blacksmiths, wood turners, weavers, spinners, and glass blowers, as well as many other inventors, designers and makers.

Schedule of Events at the Children's Museum of Virginia

  • Star Wars Group: The Mandolorian Mercs; floating entrance and first floor
  • Kanisha – business called Earthy Child; crotchet demos and will be located outside of My Backyard
  • Tidewater Blacksmiths Guild: Traditional Blacksmith’s Demonstration; outside in Mall
  • Norfolk Naval Shipyard: Robotics and/or 3D Demos
  • Newport News Shipbuilding – 3D Demos
  • Northside Makers
  • Norfolk JS (JavaScript) – computer programming
  • Prints Ink – screen printing demos; posters in open space from 11am – 3pm
  • Play-Well Teknologies – Stem Studio

Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center

  • Philip Weber Architectural Design: Hands-on building activities in the Annex
  • Ed Francis Glass Artist: Glassblowing demonstrations outside
  • Farm-to-Table Tastings With Nicolas Hagen, Chef and owner of HomeGrown Pizza (10am-noon)
  • Ceramic Artist; contact through TCC
  • Spinning & Weaving Guild
  • Quilters Guild
  • Rich Gray – origami demos
  • Tidewater Turners of Virginia: Demonstrating the art of woodturning; Courtyard till approximately 1pm
